Tzamenkomst River Lodge is a fantastic Karoo mountain biking destination between Colesberg and Gariep Dam.

Whether you are on a one night stop over or stay for a few days, get on your mountain bike and set off on one of the marked trails on the Tzamenkomst estate. Not only is the single track and jeep track well marked marked, free flowing and catering from beginner to advanced, it is the best way to come up close with some of the game in this area. Game viewing on a mountain bike is a bucket list experience.

Single track game ride

Whether you choose the 10km blue route, 20km green route or 40km red route, you are almost guaranteed to see impala, including the very rare black impala, golden wildebeest, sable antelope, gemsbok, bontebok, springbok, hartebees and many others. With a backdrop of typical Karoo koppies, bush, grasslands and windmills, each route offers something special, something different.

Best time to ride is early morning or late afternoon as the sun sets across the Orange River. The bird life is plentiful, flowers everywhere and just the sound of your tyres on the Tzamenkomst trails.
Marc Adam is a top mountain biker and personally marked out these trails to cater for riders of any fitness and ability.
There are 3 marked trails on Tzamenkomst where you can ride amongst the game and do your own mountain biking game ride.
There is a gpx link for each of the routes which you can upload to your Garmin

Tzamenkomst mountain biking is something special!

Karoo Gravel Biking

Why not get a group together and come for a Karoo mountain bike tour from Tzamenkomst. Marc has put together a number of routes past Colesberg, Gariep Dam and the smaller Karoo towns. Whether you are looking for a leisurely 40 – 60km Karoo gravel grinder or a longer 100km ride, there is enough riding from Tzamenkomst for a few days.

The silence of the Karoo is something you will remember. The beautiful bridges that cross the Orange and its tributaries, the Gariep Dam wall and Karoo farms are part and parcel of the mountain biking in this area. Pass through small dorpies like Norvalspont, Bultfontein, Donkerpoort and Gariep, or stop for a bite to eat or cup of coffee on the stoep of the only coffee shop for miles.

Windmills, dams, sheep, koppies and big skies are all part of the Karoo mountain biking experience in this part of the world.

Tzamenkomst should definitely be on your mountain biking bucket list!
